Jaw Surgery / Orthognathic Surgery

Orthognathic surgery is for situations where jaws don't meet correctly and/or teeth are not positioned harmoniously with the jaws.  Such misalignment can cause significant functional and esthetic problems.  Jaw surgery resolves those problems by bringing facial structures into balance. Please call us with any questions about jaw surgery in Eugene, OR, 541.465.3939.

If you have difficulty in the following areas, perhaps orthognathic surgery is appropriate for you:

  • Open bite
  • Protruding jaw
  • Retruding jaw
  • Breathing problems
  • Difficulty in chewing, biting or swallowing
  • Chronic jaw pain
  • Speech problems

Misalignment of the jaws is caused by a variety of factors, including a discrepancy in growth rates between upper and lower jaws, environmental influences, trauma/injury and birth defects.
Prior to treatment a consultation will be held to perform a comprehensive examination with appropriate x-rays.

Misaligned teeth can be remedied with orthodontic treatment, yet if the problem is not with teeth, but facial structure, orthognathic surgery may be the best corrective option.

If you are a candidate for corrective jaw surgery, Dr. Welch will work closely with your dentist and orthodontist to ensure the most attractive, functional and healthy result for you.
